The other critics were wrong on this one. It was a barrel of laughs all the way through.
Sandra Bullock can cause snickering with every action, because we all have some insecurities when we grow old without finding just the right lasting relationship.
Plot: Man against himself.
Plausibilities: There were a few implausible scenes are far as timing.
Foreshadowing:
A look at movies, with a quick study of their plots, whether it is plausible or not, the ironies of the story and some of the serious philosophies that were displayed in the film, whether by the director, set designer or the cinematographer.

The Preacher's Wife
The movie protrayed hope, love and forgiveness through the placement of an angel with various powers, mainly through the rules.
During the final scene, the director placed some arched windows behind Whitney Houston's character that made her look like a stereotypical angel with wings.
The soundtrack features the following songs:

Step By Step
Joy
Hold On, Help Is On The Way
I Go To The Rock
I Love The Lord
Somebody Bigger Than You And I
You Were Loved
My Heart Is Calling
Who Would Imagine A King
He's All Over Me
The Lord Is My Shepherd
Joy To The World

As Good As It Gets
Some of the best movies are those where the protaganist overcomes the antagonist. It this case it is man vs himself. Jack Nicholson's character has to overcome several personal sets of beliefs in order to do what is right and help his new friends.
Many issues are examined from welfare to prejudices of homosexuals to neighborliness, etc.

Hairspray (the remake)
One of the greatest remade movies of the new century. It has great music, great messages, and great symbolism.
The music was fantastic - There never was a soundtrack that I wanted to show all of the video clips at the next major dance. We would all dance our feet off, while watching the clips on the wall of the dance hall.
The great messages were the ne'er tired out themes of race relations and respecting everyone different, such as overweight people, "coloureds",
Some of the symbolism is the all of the items that are black & white. For instance:
The Domino's Sugar Factory sign was b&w,
Barnes & Noble
